Staying in Touch and Up-to-Date

We are now a few rounds into the 2009 league and most of the competitions are still wide open. While

many of us have our eyes glued to the WT20 in England this month, let’s take some time out to review

the developments within Cricket Shanghai. The Santa Fe Premiership sees its newest participant, K2 CC

from Yiwu, leading the pack with 3 wins from 3 games. DPR Hot Dogs lead the Santa Fe Championship

with 3 wins from 4 games. The new Development League is being headed by the DPR Hot Dogs with 3

All club committees are strongly urged to keep the Resultzvault information up-to-date. It takes a few

minutes to do after each fixture but it seems as if a few clubs have fallen behind in keeping their stats up

to date. Please ensure that each club committee is charged with this responsibility.

We have also updated our Facebook site and encourage all members to join as a means to keep in touch

with Cricket Shanghai Alumni around the world and also to stay abreast of any social events that may be

SCC v Japan National XI’s: April 30th to May 4th/5th (Tokyo to Mt. Fuji, Japan)

The SCC went on yet another ground breaking tour last month, this time to Japan to take on the

National Men’s & Women’s Teams. The SCC had the Japan Men in a precarious position at 100/5 until a

late stand of over 100 from Japan left them on 219 from their 50 overs. Darren Burns was the pick of the

SCC bowlers with 3/27 from 10 overs. The total of 219 always seemed to be out of reach with the SCC

being bundled all out for 93, Denzyl Allwright top-scoring with 32.

The 2nd fixture against Japan’s National Women was a much closer contest with the SCC restricting the

hosts to 155/8 from their 50 overs. Disco Rakowski led the chase with an emotional 101 and was well

supported by Darren Burns on 29 not out at the end of the chase. We are building a strong relationship

with the JCA and the manner in which they hosted our tourists was phenomenal. We are looking

forward to showing them the same hospitality when they tour here again.

Special mention must go to two Cricket Shanghai Alumni, Sanjay Poojary and Dave Rakowski, who

travelled from the USA and Australia respectively to join this tour highlighting the special types of

friendships cricket allows us to develop.

The China Cup – SCC Dragons vs BCC Lions: March 17th, 2009

Another great weekend was had by all and thanks very much to all those who came out and attended

the barbeque on the Saturday night. On Sunday May 17th, the SCC Dragons rather timidly surrendered

the China Cup over to the BCC Lions. It was a disappointing result after the strong performances

Shanghai recently put in over Lamma CC and the Centaurs CC. Needless to the Dragons will be heading

up to Beijing in late September to challenge our northern friends in what is now becoming a very fierce

Special Thanks To:

Santa Fe Relocation Services were once again exceptionally helpful in

allowing us use of their tents at the ground and shuttle bus for the

BCC Lions during their stay. As an organization with very limited

financial resources we are very grateful for the help that sponsors like

Santa Fe give the Council in organizing such events. The BCC

Committee members commented on how much they appreciated the

hospitality we showed them and much of this credit should go to our

league sponsor, Santa Fe adding value to our visitors’ stay here.

Beijing Cricket Sixes – July 3rd – 5th, 2009

The Inaugural Beijing Cricket Sixes kicks-off in July. In keeping

with our close co-operation we will be sending up a Dragons

and Pirates for this event. There are still a few spots up for

grabs in both squads so let me know regarding your availability

China Cup – SCC Dragons vs Beijing CC Lions – Sept 2009 (Away)

The Dragons return to Beijing to challenge for the China Cup in this

year’s 2nd installment of the series. We are in a position of being able to

have all the major silverware in our trophy cabinet by year end so let’s

make sure that we send a strong Dragons Xi north to bring it home.

Development – SCA & SCC Co-operation

The Shanghai Cricket Council takes great pleasure to announce that our co-operation with the SCA is

moving forward. As some of you may know they are based at Tong Ji University where they have

recently erected 2 brand new nets. We, as all members of Cricket Shanghai, are allowed to train there

every Saturday from 2pm – 4pm. This is a great initiative and a much needed training facility for all of us

so let’s make use of it. Please let all your club members know about this new opportunity.

Directions: Enter through the main gate on Si Ping Lu, take the immediate first left and walk straight

down to the athletics stadium. At the stadium turn right and the nets are behind the basketball courts.

Council Developments

A very warm welcome and thank you goes to Andy Scott for volunteering to fill the vacant Council

Secretary role. Andy’s energy and enthusiasm will prove to be a valuable addition to the team and we

look forward to continue moving Cricket Shanghai forward with all of you.
