Bad news. Due to snow and heavy rain the pitch for the Nanjing Sixes is underwater. It will be in no fit state for the games and as a result the Nanjing Tour ‘10 has been postponed.

Hamish “Katie” Stevens will put together a Sixes later in the year.  Not sure of the dates as they will be determined by the SCC season schedule.

Sorry to disappoint all those gaggin’ for some Nanjing madness. You’ll just have to wait a bit longer!

The New Zealand Herald this morning lamented: “Cricket: ‘Fan’ with no cricket experience gets top job.” The paper wondered what “Australian heavying” went on behind closed doors to secure Howard over NZC Chairman Sir John Anderson.

On AM this morning the former Prime Minister, now 70, mounted an understated defense of his credentials for the role.

“I don’t know that I have a lack of background in the game,” he said. “I don’t come to the game as having been a champion player or a previous administrator, but there aren’t too many champion players and I think most people know what I’ve been doing with my spare time up until now.”

I would have thought 12 years of diplomatic experience would trump a great batting average when picking someone to steer cricket through its current dramas.

Between terror threats against players, barnies over who makes what cash out of the game and constant battles over coverage and access rights, being ICC President won’t be all cucumber sandwiches in the Members’ stand.

1. Take a bottle of Captain Morgan’s Rum, preferably stolen or procured through grey means.

Bashers Training: Thursday 6pm to 8pm, 123 Yan Ping Lu, at San He Hua Yuan (tennis courts). Just up the road from Xinzha Road and across from One Wellness.

First training of the season so let’s get everybody down there. I appreciate some you poor fools have real jobs that may keep you a little late. However better late than never as the four captains need to have a look at what they are working with this season.

As always kit will be provided by the club so just bring yourselves. Practice will be followed by our first official Thursday at The Camel (TBC) for debrief and a brew.

5 rmb fines for bowler & batsmen per ball hit out of the courts. This money will be collected to pay the repairs for when Sir Dick breaks a car window later in the season.
