Leisure vs Hot Dogs, 3rd August 2013

With the team sheet being completed late on Thursday with the addition of new boys Chimney and Bukkake (visiting from Japan for a few days) the leisure were set for an early Saturday morning start. With every game counting in a very tight D3 we needed to take down the division leading Hot Dogs who haven’t been liking the hot conditions in recent weeks and put the presure back on the other teams.

On paper a bowling line up of Woody, JR, Spanky and Swahilli with Dags, Sharapova and a few other in reserve we knew we would be able to take it to them with the ball. Woody discussed changing his game plan after last weeks loss and promised to have 4 beers down before we got to the ground. A few others joined him and the leisure were soon in there rhythm.Post-op, Korean and Coco joined for the bus ride and umpiring duties and general looseness.

Dags proceeded to lose the toss and out into the field we went. With a good 5 or 6 degrees scrubbed of the mercury after the rain the evening before it was a fairly pleasant morning in the field with a light breeze pushing across the SRFC. Latex settled in behind the stumps and the Bashers went at them.

What followed was a display of bowling that had the Hot Dogs falling like flies. Very quickly the opening pair of Swahili and Woody were firing the deliveries down left, right and but mostly centre. What we soon discovered was that the Hot dogs struggled most with those straight deliveries. Swahili opened his account for the day dismissing one of the openers for 1 and the the other wasn’t far behind thanks to a nice catch down leg side edge from Latex off Woody for 7. Swahili finished up the opening spell with 2 – 16 and Woody did one better with 3 –19. Next into the attack were JR and Spanky. The pressure was on and Spanky started to let fly, a couple of wides went for 4 first but he soon got the radar working and went about a brutal attack on the Hot Dogs legs, chests and shoulders. This took us through to a well earned drinks break with 50 odd for 6 on the score board.

The Bashers were chomping at the bit to get back out and finish up the doggies. The batsmen wisely took cover under newly applied helmets and JR and Spanky picked up where they left off. A great slow motion caught and bowled from JR and some devastating pace from Spanky had them finishing up with a couple of wickets a piece. It was down to the skipper to bring himself on and take the final wicket at the end of the 17th over. A few too many extras left them top scoring on 30 but we managed to only allow 1 batsman to make dbl figures.

Hot Dogs 79 All Out.

A quick change and Shears who had been quiet all day out on the boundary and Sharapova headed out to open up the innings. A few solid shots and a single was followed by confusion and Shears being run out. Not the best start but we could rely on Spanner to steady things up and put on a few runs…. First ball 4, second ball bowled. Next up the skipper thought he would roll the dice and throw one of the new boys into the mix, completely untested. However, his first choice of Chimney had to be revised because he was off getting a sandwich in the club house under the impression that we couldn’t be 2 down this quickly. So Dag’s switched it up and threw Bukkake into the mix. Things were about to get messy. Duck. The only saving grace of our innings so far was that Sharapova was prodding the ball about for some singles and the Hot dogs were gifting us more extras than we had given them.

Latex was next, a few leisurely singles followed by the only 6 of the game got things ticking over again, but he was soon gone for 9. Finally up stepped Chimney who swept at everything, bat an inch of the ground completely horizontal to everything the dogs threw at him while trying to stop his box escaping from his trouser leg. This display saw us through to drinks with needing only 16 to win off 10 overs. Chimney soon fell with JR adding just 2 leaving Swahili to come in and knock a 4 for the winning runs in the 14th over. Great job by Sharapova for carrying her bat and top scoring with 16 no.

After a quick team photo and a couple of christenings the leisure settled into a lively fines session and the realisation that a win this Saturday against the Devils assures them of a play off spot with 2 games to go.
