The day started out quite decent as it was overcast and not much sun to bother the Bashers as they anticipated another D2 victory. However, unaware to us, the weather had other plans to spoil the thoughts of many. With a stacked team, the bashers set off the cages to round up the cooler and ready the gear to ensure an early departure from cages.
Bambi, leading from the front got to cages first which was no surprise (a surprise to be highlighted later) there. On the other hand, the second person to arrive was none other than TANGO, which shocked many and rumour has it that this was the cause of much trouble to be discussed later in this lumberjack. Some showed some signs of worry as the weather predictions stated that the rain would spoil the day. However, this was dismissed by the bashers who just wanted to get the game on.
Light drizzles of rain started to fall at Wellington, as to much surprise Bambi won the toss (yep, you read it correctly, Bambi won the toss) and smartly selected to have a bat first. Hasina and Bambi opened the batting and the opening pair created a decent partnership to put some wheels on the Basher’s innings. Bambi, made Hasina run his first 3 runs in his time at Bashers to which some commented and said that Hasina may retire hurt soon. However, Hasina did not have much to worry about as Bambi was dismissed missing a straight ball which did not fail to uproot his middle stump to send him packing.
This brought the in-form Tango to the crease who started off his innings with some boundaries to keep the momentum going. The partnership did not last as long though, as Hasina trying to keep things going was caught by the keeper trying to pull a short ball and unfortunately had a top edge. Judy was next to the crease with plenty on his mind as he wanted to make his wrongdoings right based on his previous innings. The doggies like they knew of this and tempted Judy with several juicy full flight balls to which Judy was not interested in. Judy and Tango kept the runs ticking with the nice shot selection and running between the wickets.
This partnership was then broken when Tango cut a ball right into point’s hand and Swiper was next in line. Being very patient, Swiper knocked around a few before being bowled and was back in the dugout before the rains came. This brought Sensation was sent to the crease. Judy and Sensation kept things going running between the wickets and some much-needed boundaries to keep the scoring rate high. However, the rain came which forced the players off the field (mainly the umpire) while Bambi was keen on the game going on. After resuming, the teams agreed on playing at one end, in an attempt to rush through the overs.
After play resumed, Sensation was bowled off an inside edge which brought Ambo to the crease. For the short time of play, Ambo launched a ball over the square leg area for six and shortly after that the hot dogs prayed that the rain would come to stop the assault. Their prayers were answered as the rain poured which caused the game to be called out. Judy ended the match with 47* off 37 balls, which Ambo finishing with 10 off 6 balls.
The fines sessions started at Wellington and continued on the Bus where rum was presented to the bashers as a token of appreciation from Sensation and his madam (Keira Jordan). All in all, it was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves. Great stuff being displayed by the Bashers once again.
