Lumberjack

Pleasure vs SCA NForcers, 30 April 2013

Rain was forecast, and light rain was falling when the Pleasure team assembled at the locked Camel at 7am. Sinbad managed to call Steve, who arrived soon after to allow us to get the kitbag. The Leisure was admirably represented by Dags (and Coco), Woodstock, Shitshoes, and Spanner, but somehow, despite Woodstock’s inclusion in the playing eleven, there were no pies… or beers on the bus!

Business vs Daredevils, April 21st Lumberjack

Sunday morning, April 21st versus reigning Division 1 champions Daredevils CC post- Bashers on a Boat was always going to be a challenge for the Business. Fortunately the captain had planned for Sinbad's inevitable no show and named a squad of 12. The day was bright(ish) but slightly chilly as the Business arrived at the ground. Filthy lost the toss but got the desired result, the Business in the field to begin.

Pleasure Lumberjack: Pudong v Bashers, April 14

The 2013 Pleasure Campaign began in the early dawn hours on Sunday. The team assembled at the Camel, Korean making sure to see if Long Dong had done everything that was needed to prepare for the game. “I’m the captain on the field, I’ve got to concentrate on strategy,” was his response.

Business vs Hot Dogs, March 31st

The Business were looking forward to kicking off the 2013 season for the Bashers in style with a first up encounter with their nemesis, the Hot Dogs.

Basher Barbarians – Gaelic Football Competition

Basher Barbarians… The Cause - The Shanghai Gaelic Football Club’s inaugural World Cup

Bashers club captain lifts first silverware of the year!

Yesterday at the Nforce arena a number of Bashers took part in the Indoor Cricket World Cup. 5 teams from around the world competed over a 4 game round robin to see who would walk away with the silverware.

Forget about it!

Two painful defeats yesterday, but a good post-match discussion at the mini-Camel (despite water dripping out of the light fittings)... The Jaguar was probably the only Basher to exceed his high standards, and overall, the team bowled outstandly well in the first match, but did not perform with the bat and it was all downhill in the second game, where Tubby had a personal nightmare (despite arriving with the most outstanding Bashers hairstyle of the season).

Pleasure vs Pudong & Business vs Daredevils

Ouch... Back to back losses - but at least we competed all the way and weren't facing a world record run chase.

ALMOST! Business vs Pudong Indoor League Match!

The Bad... A team of 7 assembled out at the N-Force Arena to do battle with the Pudong Power this afternoon - most feeling the effects of the previous night (see below). With only half a team at the start the Bashers batted first - Shitshoes and Badabing opening up. It was a solid opening partnership of 40 runs (no wickets) against a pair of plump "spinners" who bowled short for 4 overs. The batters were able to play off the back foot and tap the ball into the net to get some bonus runs. One well timed pull shot by Shitshoes bouncing up to hit one of the oversized Pudong players in the chin. Filthy and Sinbad followed up with a good effort of 21, but not quite achieving their best due to some disastrous running and an easy catch off Sinbad. Long Dong and Korean took the third partnership and contributed another 20-odd, but once again, it was a partnership that promised much but lost its way with a couple of good runouts by Pudong. Korean timed a couple of lovely straight shots and was using his feet well to the spinners. Pudong chose Long Dong to bat again, and with Paps, finished strongly with a 30-something partnership. Paps cracked a couple of elegant drives off the back foot, and Long Dong looked solid in support. However, 2 wickets in the last over cost the team a bit of momentum at the end of the innings and the final score of 102 was only a middling total. At one point the umpire told the Bashers to be quiet during play, but we maintained a respectable level of vocal support throughout the batting innings.

The Lost Leisure Lumberjacks

There were a number of missing Leisure lumberjacks for matches this year, but none have been updated since Birdshit posted the list last month. So to preserve the memories of these great Leisure wins, I will post short reports, to be added to by the missing lumberjacks as/if required.
