Haiku of dross. Bashers “Stupid” lose to Leopards

This is a team lumberjack. Written by a losing team. Yes, lumberjacks should be written when we lose too. Don't remember how it came about exactly but each of the 12 have been tasked with writing a haiku to sum up a day when all but one Basher had their worst performance of the season on the same day.

Lumberjack: Business v K2, June 15 2014

Business played K2 for the second time this season, hoping to perform much better than the first time. There was a new Basher (Scoop) and a number of players stepping up from D2 including Pleasure captain Swoop and Business debutants Ringer and Hollywood. Sir Dick was also there for his first game in two years as a late replacement for the injured Tubby.

Lumberjack: Pleasure v. Daredevils, 20 March 2014

The squad for Pleasure’s first match of the season arrived at SRFC with the weather clearing. The bus driver was allegedly arrested meaning taxis from the Camel, while there were a few changes to the named team, including some back-and-forth with the Business squad. The upshot was Mardi Gras joining Pleasure for his maiden Bashers game, while Dags made his D1 debut on the near field.

Match Report: Leisure vs Pudong

The first match of the 2014 season saw Leisure up against defending champion Pudong. Looking to exact some revenge for the 2013 final, and choosing from a inordinately large collection of players all vying for a spot in the first game of the season, Dags was not afraid to throw two debutants into the fire.

The smoke or smog hasn't cleared up much outside, and I'm sore all over from doubling up for the Mongrels, but I have the scorecards and can relate the story of "How the Bashers lost a final by 1 run". But first, I need to describe the semi-final, because it was the high point of the afternoon and we need some positivity to this Lumberjack. I'll add that we finished top of the league in the regular season with 9 wins, and just 2 losses, so we were confident we could pick up a win in the final, but the fairytale ending wasn't to be...
