Cuba & The Bay of Pigs

Further to the discussion on Wednesday night some of us had with the Pot Bellied Pigs Chairman, Anson Bailey, the Pigs have now fedback that they are on for a joint rugby and cricket tour next spring to Cuba with The Bashers. This would be a two week trip and the plan is to fly around the World following the Sun with a stopover in Italy on the way there and either Toronto or Vancouver on the way back. So it really is a World Tour. Players from both teams can play for the other team so if Bashers fancied lacing up their rugby boots there would be games of rugby as well.

Loose will be taking care of things at the Bashers end and once he lets me know we have enough people seriously interested (and I assume mates elsewhere that might want to join up would be welcome) then Anson and I will start to put together the tour logistics. Plan is to have the details together by end of Aug and a sponsorship and media plan in place by Oct/Nov.

Who are the Pigs? Much like The Bashers they have a chequered results history, are completely dominant off the field, have set the benchmark for charity engagement (The Fat Boy 10s in Manila is their event), have had many rugby (and Sumo) celebs play for them and without doubt are the best dressed rugby team in Asia.

Contacts have already been made with Cuban cricket so as things develop Loose will update you. Our latest understanding is that there are around 8 proper cricket clubs with teams at various age levels so there are plenty of cricketers there.

Finally Anson has set aside 10 tickets for the Bledisloe Cup game in HK for The Bashers and we will have a table at the pre match lunch.
