Business vs K2 Lumberjack

Business arrived at SRFC minus some of their big guns but content in the knowledge that they were on a 5 match unbeaten run against K2. The team warmed up together minus Inquisition who choose to use this time to glue his shoes back together. The team included with Business debutants in the form of Growler, Conan and Tubby.
First time Business captain, Filthy got off to a bad start losing a crucial toss and the Bashers were put into the field.

The Business opening bowlers, Dazzler and Hedgehog, on the money from the word go. Dazzler finding the outside edge in the first over and Cassius snaffling a good catch. The pair were extremely unlucky not to add more wickets with some dubious umpiring decisions denying the Bashers two clear caught behinds. The umpire replaced by a neutral after 10 overs but the damage was done.
After nine overs K2 had limped to 21-1 and the Business were let them know about fairly vociferously. Filthy came into the attack and fairly removed himself after two wayward overs for 10. At the other end Dazzler was still keeping it tight and bowled through his spell of 8, conceding 23 for 2 wickets. The second wicket a great running catch by Growler at deep mid on.

Conan was brought into the attack for his first spell for the business and was on the money from the word go. A few no balls aside he bowled with great control and his 5 overs 27 runs for 1 wicket was not fair reward. Tubby can take a reasonable portion of the blame for this as he dropped relatively straight forward chances at slip (despite claiming to be slips fieldsmen in the week leading up to the game).At the halfway stage we took drinks with K2 66-3. Unfortunately this was an innings of two halves. After break K2 launched an incredible assault upon the Business bowlers putting on a further 178 in the last 20 overs, including 86 in the last 6. Few bowlers were spared their wrath as they plundered 13 sixes. Conan took two great catches in the outfield and Sinbad bowled a tight five over spell but K2 finished with 244-7 off their 40 overs.

Business has scored over 200 in each of the their previous three innings incl. 265 against K2 so went into their batting innings full of confidence. In his last game for the Bashers Hedgehog opened with Filthy. He was straight into the action with a third ball 6. With Filthy feeding him the strike Hedgehog was able to get the innings off to a great start with a 59 run partnership off only 56 balls. Hedgehog’s score of 36 is his top score for the Business. Dazzler came in at three and looked comfortable in his run a ball 11 before being LBW for the fourth time in four games. 84 for 2 in the 13 over.

Conan was in at four and along with Filthy started to really put the K2 fielders under pressure with quick singles and twos. Unfortunately a brain explosion by Filthy resulted in Conan being run out at the non strikers end attempting a suicidal single and the Business were 101-3 in the 15th. This started a Bashers collapse that has rarely been seen in Business this year as three wickets fell for the addition of only 5 more runs. Cassius caught behind for a duck, Filthy caught and bowled of a leading edge for 25 and Sir Dick LBW for 2. Suddenly the Business were 103-6 after 18.
Paps and Growler set about resurrecting the innings in patient fashion. They put on 48 runs in 7 overs before Paps was caught guiding a ball to short 3rd man for 26. 151-7 off 25.

Tubby (+ runner) joined Growler for what could’ve been the match turning partnership. With Conan running btw the wickets due to a foot injury to Tubby the pair ripped shreds through the K2 bowlers with good sensible cricket. A 59 run partnership gave the Business some hope of snatching victory. With 34 needed 34 balls the two batsmen had K2 under real pressure. Sadly it was the umpire that crumbled in the pressure giving Tubby out caught behind off thin air for quickfire 25. Growler followed soon with a top score of 38 as did Sinbad for a single leaving Inquistion stranded on 1*.
213 all out with 4 overs remaining and a loss by 31 runs.

A sad way to say goodbye to Hedgehog who has been a great performer over the last two seasons for the Business. He will be missed. Best of luck in HK.
