FYI. See e-mail copy from SCC’s Mr “Excom” below with 6’s update / news of postponment this year. Also learnt a bit of related trivia on Friday – Woodstock designed the Shanghai 6s logo 11 years ago.

Dear Ainsley Mann & Coca-Cola
Re: The 12th Annual Shanghai Cricket Sixes
The Cricket Shanghai Committee would, firstly, like to thank you for the support given by your organisation over the years of what has now grown into one of the sporting highlights of the Shanghai calendar. Last year’s 11th annual event was another resounding success and we are planning to build on this year-to-year progress that the event brings in terms of furthering cricket in the local community and most importantly raising funds for charity and community outreaches through Sport For All.
You are most likely aware that the SRFC is progressing well towards completion of the exciting new facility. Furthermore, the 2010 Shanghai World EXPO and Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games have presented most event organisers with some unique challenges this year but, more specifically, have also brought opportunities for change and improvements to our already very successful model.
In order for us to grow the event and maximise the enjoyment for all participating teams, especially those travelling internationally, the Cricket Shanghai has decided to move the 12th Annual Shanghai Cricket Sixes to May 2011. This will also be a permanent change to the event’s dates going forward as the reasoning and benefits of the new window are far-reaching, namely:
· Better weather and longer day light hours offering more and better quality cricket for everyone
· Re-defining the event as a “season-opener” will increase excitement and interest through extensive off-season PR and exposure
· Very few other competing events on the Shanghai social and sporting calendar means a greater audience
· The organisers will be able to focus solely on the event during the Shanghai cricket off-season allowing for more improvements to be made.
While the World Expo, Asian Games and SRFC project are only relevant considerations to 2010 only, it has presented the opportunity make the above improvements a reality. In terms of the actual event, with longer daylight hours we plan to have more cricket played. Local development will still be at the forefront with an expanded local university tournament and we will continue to work with the Chinese Cricket Association in securing the participation of National Teams and obtaining official approval from the sport’s governing bodies. Cricket Shanghai, through it’s association with the SRFC and Sport For All, will again have young local and migrant children as the focus for both over the weekend, through coaching sessions at the ground, and with the longer term view by once again raising funds for the Sport For All charity.
In closing, we would once again like to express our appreciation for all your support for this event and the growing contribution that this weekend is making to the local community. We sincerely hope that you will continue to support The Shanghai Cricket Sixes in the future.
We will be in touch again shortly with more news and updates for this exciting annual event. In the meantime, you are welcome to contact Cricket Shanghai with any expressions of interest, questions or feedback at excom@shanghai.com.
Best regards
SCC Committee
