Shitshoes, Dags, Satchel, Mayank (Satchel’s Dad), Birdshit, and Paps/Dot (Dot let Paps bat for him before he showed up) assembled at the Arena (at the last possible moment) for the final two matches of the year for the Bashers Social Sixes. Dags was able to award Satchel with his Leisure Bowler of the Year Award – congratulations to Satchel!
Bashers Social Sixes 108 vs NCA Academy 105
1. Satchel (20) & Mayank (15): 35 runs
We were up against no fewer than 4 Bashers for the NCA Academy side (Korean, Filthy, Cranky and Hothead), who were only playing two short-ish players today. Shitshoes won the toss, and decided to bat (given that he had only 4 players present at the toss). Satchel and his dad opened up the batting for the Bashers Social Sixes and scored comfortably, except for a few run outs. Mayank batted so well that Dags almost instantly wished he was part of the Leisure squad.
2. Shitshoes (21) & Dags (15): 36 runs
Obviously the highlight of the partnership was an over that cost Filthy 17 runs (including 3 x 4s). Cranky was winding up for some nasty pace bowling, which was appropriately charged (and mostly missed) by the batsmen.
3. Birdshit (11) & Paps (26): 37 runs
Dot hadn’t arrived yet, and so Paps was called in to bat until he did arrive. Well, Dot finally arrived in the second bowling partnership, so Paps was left to bat out the whole partnership (and with no bowling duties easily grabbed the MVP). The Bashers Social Sixes crept past the hundred for the second time against the NCA Academy, posting a creditable 108.
1. Satchel (0/9 off 1 over), Birdshit (2/18 off 2), & Dags (0/16 off 1): 43 runs
Satchel opened up and caused trouble without getting wickets. Birdshit bowled one over for -4 and one over for 22 runs in great contrast, and Dags had a bit of a nightmare (that continued later in the afternoon), bowling 3 NBs and 1 LS wide.
2. Satchel (0/10 off 1), Mayank (0/21 off 2), & Shitshoes (1/3 off 1): 34 runs
Satchel bowled 3 dot balls, but couldn’t make a breakthrough, and Mayank also beat the bat without success. The solitary wicket was the stumping of the Korean by a flighted delivery from Shitshoes.
3. Dot (1/5 off 2), Dags (0/14 off 1), & Shitshoes (0/9 off 1): 28 runs
The Cranky/Hothead partnership was well within striking range of the total, but a miserly spell from Dot pegged them back. Shitshoes had to bowl the final over for less than 12 runs, and managed to pull it out of the bag despite not taking a wicket, and so the Bashers Social Sixes won the first game by 3 runs.
Pudong Power 120 vs Bashers Social Sixes 80
1. Dot (0/11 off 1), Satchel (1/3 off 1), Mayank (1/1 off 1), & Dags (0/15 off 1): 30 runs
Shitshoes lost the toss, so the Bashers had to bowl without a rest after finishing the previous game. Dot was unlucky, Satchel and Mayank were excellent, and Dags’ nightmare continued. He bowled 3x NBs and 1x LS wide in a 9 ball final over that gave the Pudong side some momentum.
2. Satchel (0/10 off 1), Mayank (1/3 off 1), Birdshit (0/8), & Shitshoes (1/7): 28 runs
The second partnership was more steady, as all bowled well, especially Mayank. He was definitely on his way to being recruited by the Leisure for the 2014 season, and with his good bowling picked up the MVP.
3. Birdshit (1/14 off 1), Dot (0/15 off 1), Dags (0/16 off 1), & Shitshoes (1/17 off 1): 62 runs
All bowlers were punished as Mark Bernhard scored 52 runs in the partnership, and that was the difference between the two otherwise reasonably even teams. That set up the unlikely total of 120 runs for the Bashers Social Sixes to chase.
1. Shitshoes (20) & Dags (12): 32 runs
The opening partnership struck out well, and scored quickly. Dags and Shitshoes swinging away wildly, however, a couple of catches at the end meant the Bashers were below the required run rate.
2. Satchel (6) & Mayank (20): 26 runs
This was a solid partnership, and was held back by 3 run outs in quick succession in the 2nd and 3rd overs. Satchel couldn’t get a run off the last 5 deliveries, but Mayank continued to look like Leisure material.
3. Birdshit (11) & Dot (11): 22 runs
Dot and Birdshit needed a 62 run partnership (i.e. it was all level at the equivalent time of the innings), and unfortunately, it didn’t happen today. The Bashers managed to get to 80, which is a reasonable score ordinarily, and showed some fight, despite losing by 40 runs.
The next weekend for indoor cricket is after the Christmas/New Year holidays, so thanks to those who’ve turned out over the past month and a half.
