SCC Pirates vs Tongji University Lumberjack

SCC vs Tongji 2

SCC vs Tongji 1

Last week a pre-season fixture against the Tongji University side was hastily arranged, and in the rush four Bashers were selected: Shit Shoes, Skid Row, Ian TBC Staz, and Bullet. The Bashers also moved their nets to the same venue to show a bit of support on the sidelines (and bring an esky – thanks Truffles).

The Pirates won the toss and elected to bat, and as the Daredevils hadn’t shown up yet, Shit Shoes went out to open with A. Kawatra from Pudong. The pitch was an artificial soccer field, so the bounce was varied enough to keep it interesting. New Daredevil signup A. Russell hit a punishing 51*, including 4x 6s, and put on 104 runs with Shit Shoes. Shit Shoes was bowled shortly after drinks for a scratchy 34. Staz (golden duck), Skidders (4) and Bullet (2) also put in brief cameos at the batting crease. Eventually the Pirates ended up with a score around 184 all out off the final ball of our 20 overs. S. Tiwari picked up 4/34 off his 4 overs, and arguably the best bit of cricket of the day was a stunning one-handed catch from I. Kelvin James diving full length to his right at long off.

In the field, I was rotated out so got to have a refreshingly cold beverage with the Bashers on the boundary for the first half of the innings – thanks to Truffles and Square Root for ensuring a steady supply! Meanwhile Skidders put in a good spell of bowling, claiming 1/42 off his 4 overs, and Bullet was enthusiastic around the field. I finally came on to field the game was in the bag with the required run rate pushing 15. Tongji batted well, but they didn’t get close to the total, hitting a respectable 5/153 off their 20 overs.

The match was followed by a big night out at Yong Kang Lu, which got a bit hazy as we celebrated the SCC’s first win of the year. Thanks to the Bashers for contributing well to the fixture!
