In case you’re not familiar with rugby numbers here’s a primer along with some cricketing roles which might best match up with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1 Loosehead Prop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
First to arrive at the after-match function and last to leave (unless escorted out). Should be at least a 2XL. Opening bat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2 Hooker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Fairly self explanatory. Wicket keeper, hits only to the on side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3 Tighthead Prop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Spends a lot of time at the gym. Still basically circular in shape. Carefully watching the esky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4 Lock<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Tall timber. Likes reaching between other blokes legs. Fast bowler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5 Lock<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
See above. Surprisingly smarter than he looks. Bats with windmill action, bowls almost exclusively No-Balls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6 Blindside Flanker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Toughest bastard on the field. If he ran into a Shanghai Taxi, the taxi would sustain more damage. 6 and out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7 Openside Flanker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Filthy thief. Always seems to be there. Fields at silly mid on, also in the covers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
8 Number 8<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Likes to push from behind. Allrounder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
9 Halfback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Smallest on the park. Never shuts up. First slip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
10 Flyhalf\/First Five Eighth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Runs, Passes, Kicks, possibly the best looking, gets all the girls. Bats first drop, bowls the super over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
11 Left Wing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Fast (think Forrest Gump). Fields on the boundary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
12 Inside Centre\/Second Five Eighth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Runs straight at other blokes. Sometimes shoulders wider than he is tall. Brings on the drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
13 Outside Centre<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Organises the defence. Good at finding gaps. Good batting partner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
14 Right Wing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Runs in straight lines and circles. Quick twos and threes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
15 Fullback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Last line of defence. Bats 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
16 Reserve Hooker<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Not an enviable situation to be in. Bowls into the wind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
17 Reserve Prop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Probably scrums both sides so both ears are mush. Physically very stable but mentally unpredictable. Golden duck or a quick 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
18 Reserve Prop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Solid bugger. Keeps hitting it straight to the same fielder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
19 Reserve Lock<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Probably missing a few teeth. Runs in from the boundary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
20 Reserve Loosie<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Not to be trusted to look after your keys or wallet. Good for an occasional wicket off a shit ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
21 Reserve Halfback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Just when you thought you’d gotten rid of the most annoying prick along comes this little arsehole. Wants to bat higher up the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
22 Reserve Back<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
A lot of fans are sure he’s better than the guy starting. Leg spinner, bats at the death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
23 Reserve Back<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Scared of the big ugly guys. Reserve fielder.<\/p>\n\n\n
