1. Bashers Week Quiz Results

Another big night. Those missing out – missed out! A big welcome to the various newcomers to the world of Bashers trivia, it’s really not a bad place.

Once again the Drop Bears cleaned up taking a hat-trick (yawn). Another case each of Just Beer goodies for them. Some steady competition in the rest of the pack. Some adjusting to the new innovation of a buzzer round well – others not so – as evidenced by a couple of negative scores. A few new sections, including a Gashers section. One wonders why the WAGS didn’t have the confidence to pick that one as their wildcard. See fellas, even they don’t understand women. They did manage to take home a bottle of Vodka for their efforts though, no doubt they’ll be using that at their next secret meeting in some sordid and secret manner. Ethnicity picked up the JD by a narrow margin, until baseless accusations from I’m Easy had them rightfully ejected and the margin widened. Thanks to Katie (no show again) for shouting everyone a round of Sambucas, very kind of you. Stay tuned for the next quiz – probably just before the break of summer – big things in store for that one. For Statsie the total scores of all teams for each section went as follows; Sciences:175, Arts:270, World:224, China:365, Bashers:340, Gashers: 285. Teams making the wisest wildcard choice: Drop Bears only! Total Points scored: 2022 out of a possible 5500 at an average of just under 289. Best score in a section: Drop Bears with 180 in the China section. Worst: I’m Easy (-11) in the World section.

  2. Pleasure Report: Strong Bowling Outdone by Subpar Batting

The Pleasure XI started out at the insane early start time of 7:30 at the Bamboo, arriving before the staff on this cool Sunday morning. With gray skies and rain threatening, the Bashers stand-in captain Andy “Tank” Scott promptly lost the toss and the Bashers were forced to field.

With fielding restrictions in place for the first eight overs, and missing pace-man Woodstock, Desmond “Long Dong” DeSilva and Zeb “Camel” Khan opened the bowling, putting the Pudong side on the back foot and setting up the tactical first change tandem of Dean “Loose” Lapthorne and Hamish “Katie” Stevens. The varied speed and spin attacks of the Anzacs proved too much for Pudong as Katie made a push for the return of his old nickname with three wickets (with leg spin that could take your head off!) and Loose added another scalp to his own total.

John “Inquisition” L’Epagniol induced the first fine of the day by showing up late to the game, but after a proper degree of chirp from his own teammates, proceeded to bowl three overs of stingy cricket. (more…)

  3. Business XI in the business

    Ladies and Gents,

Yesterday, in less than ideal cricketing conditions, the Business XI started off the season with a pretty comprehensive victory over Pudong CC.

A sharp bowling performance was backed up by a very solid fielding performance resulting in us bowling Pudong out for 210. A miserly opening spell from Cranky and KC put Pudong under immediate pressure with plenty of dot balls whistling down the ‘corridor of doubt’, this was then backed up by Paps and Filthy with The Rock, Dipso and Terror also get in on the action (3 wickets for Terror, 2 to Dipso and Paps, and one a piece to Cranky, Filthy and the Rock). Read it and weep. Another big headache from last night – from all the shouting i’m sure!

Apologies for marking a few wrong – i’m a bear of very small brain

Our usual winners by a long stretch – but the peloton is closing in fast

And a dead heat (after penalties for Hot-Dog like behaviour) for third and another for fifth – this is one red hot comp!

Mr The Prof has already started prepping the next test ….stand by for some serious intellectualism!

Anyone who was afraid of the rain and didn’t show or anyone who wants to relive the moment can get a taste of a draft version of the quiz here

  7. The Dream is Over…. [at least till next game]

ALAS, the dream is over for the Twenty20 Bashers squad, for we, have been [flogged by a girl getting a hat-trick against us] narrowly defeated! BOOOOOO! HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Those brave, courageous souls. We weep for you, o’ mighty brethren!

FEAR NOT, for what does not kill us makes us stronger and we shall prevail like a Paul Howard [aka Woodstock] beamer bowled at a batting bunny!

Match report to come….stayed tuned trendsetters.

  8. Bashers Game Report [Twenty 20] – May 25th v Hotdogs

After a 5 week hibernation, the Bashers Twenty 20 side pounced like a hungry Javan Rhinoceros on the hapless Hotdogs to claim a well deserved 1 run victory. Having been forced to bat as a result of a last minute schedule change by the Anti Basher, Loosey Deano and Professor Thomas strutted to the middle of the BISS field amid cheers from Bashers faithful [1 - Hamish] and a few jeers [Hotdog supporters -  all 3 of them].
