Final Match Report of 2012

Daredevils Digital 54 vs Pleasure 66

It was a great team effort by the Pleasure this week to dominate one of the better teams in the league. Since I use the bowlers in standard 2 x 2 cover formation I can give the bowling partnerships:

1. Long Dong & Sinbad – 4 runs
2. The Jaguar & Growler – 27 runs
3. Shitshoes & Korean – 5 runs
4. Tantric & Paps – 18 runs

The bowling and fielding was outstanding throughout and from the first over we had the opposition under pressure. The Jaguar put in a solid effort in his first match – picking up a couple of wickets, a diving catch, and putting in some great work in the field (especially the throw from the ground at the stumps that hit Sinbad in the back). Long Dong & Sinbad bowled really well – with Sinbad picking up a hat-trick in his 2nd over, and the Korean & Shitshoes bowling partnership also picked up a lot of wickets. Growler was great at the back net – stopping the boundaries and making a catch that rebounded off two nets look easy. Tantric and Paps closed out the innings with a solid effort – with Paps bowling one of the Devils with a classy yorker!

1. Growler & Tantric – 26 runs
2. Korean & The Jaguar – 9 runs
3. Sinbad & Long Dong – 14 runs
4. Paps & Shitshoes – 17 runs

The whole batting line-up stayed calm and in control, which meant the opposition bowlers threw up a lot of wides and no-balls. Growler & Tantric set up the win with a great start and some good hitting to the back nets. Korean & The Jaguar were solid – and some smart thinking by Korean virtually eliminated wickets. There was some controversy as Korean called for a time-out only to be run out by the Devils bowler, but it didn’t matter in the end. Sinbad & Long Dong took the Pleasure to within 5 runs of the Devils score, but could have passed it if Sinbad had felt like sliding his bat (and avoided a couple of shocking run-outs). Then Paps & Shitshoes took the Pleasure to their second win in a row, despite facing a couple of hostile overs of spinning bouncers from the leggie!

Hot Dogs 80 vs Business 73

What can I say about this match? It was one that got away from the Business, although the scoreline makes it look reasonably comfortable for the Hot Dogs. Since Filthy juggles his bowlers in an incomprehensible manner, I can’t write up the bowling partnerships. The Hot Dogs got off to a great start (32 runs off the 1st partnership), but the Business fought back in the to keep in the game (just 4 runs in both the 2nd and 4th partnerships). The fielding was good, but a few half-chances went down and a couple of throws at the stumps were agonizingly close to getting run-outs. Shitshoes got smashed in the shoulder by a full blooded pull shot about 2m from the bat. The Korean bowled a couple of good overs – picking up wickets and keeping the runs down, and Filthy also bowled well – almost getting a hat-trick off the last 3 deliveries of the innings (misfielding when it looked like a certain run-out).

1. Shitshoes & Long Dong – 12 runs
2. Korean & Dags – 32 runs
3. Paps & Sinbad – 13 runs
4. Filthy & Stats – 16 runs

The batting was solid and in touch with the required run rates for most of the innings, but we didn’t quite get the result at the end. A few too many run-outs in the 1st partnership of Shitshoes & Long Dong cost at least 15 runs. Korean & Dags (who arrived at the last minute wearing some scandalously short pants reminiscent of Windows 95) then put on a great partnership showing some good hitting to the back nets! Paps & Sinbad had a reasonable partnership, but Sinbad was run-out on the first delivery (once again, not sliding his bat). That left Filthy & Stats to get 23 off the final 4 overs, and then 12 off the final over. It was good for the first couple of deliveries, but then a few misses (and only singles) left the Business needing 3 off the last delivery to win. Stats missed it and the Business ran a single, but a run-out resulted as they tried to steal another run to tie the match. The Business put in a solid effort, but it was disappointing that a few simple errors cost us the win.

As these were the final matches before the festive break – Merry Christmas to all the Bashers!!!
