If you have looked at the rugby shirts on the wall at the SRFC you may have seen the rather splendid Shanghai Scots shirt from the 30′s. Simon Drakeford who is writing a book on the history of the SRFC/Shanghai Rugby recently sent me some photos of the mighty all conquering Shanghai Scots Cricket Team from around the 1860′s to 1890′s that took on the Shanghai English and beat them regularly. Clearly now it is my mission to restablish this fixture and obviously one lesson I can take from the current England cricket team is that in the modern era one can be very flexible  on the eligibility rules.

“We are told that in ODI (One-Day International) tournaments, the team that bats first wins 72 percent of the time. This whole thing is basically NFL overtime. So when India wins the toss and elects to hit first, it strikes us as odd that the announcers would bother to discuss whether that decision is wise, but they do. They then do an interview with the Pakistani captain who does an admirable job of pretending that if he’d won the toss he would probably have just chosen to bat second anyway, but you can clearly tell he just died a little inside.”

As you all know there is a monster weekend of cricket happening around the world this weekend, kicking off in Shanghai, where the SCC will be taking on Hong Kong’s Lamma Island in the Annual Breezer Trophy.

The SCC are currently looking for volunteers to help with the day in the form of two umpires, and a scorer.

Not only will you be allowing the Bashers to lead the way in contributing to the SCC, you will be doing a huge favour to the club. In addition to that you will also get free lunch at the ground and at the Bamboo that evening.
