2009 Subs
Guys,
After much discussion and strategising from the committee, we can now announce the 2009 Subs. They are exactly the same as last year. So that means 2000 RMB for every Bashers member (pleasure or business), payable in cash to Oliver ‘Stats’ Austin ASAP please. For this, you get:
- All your games fees (both business and pleasure will be playing c. 10+ games this season)
- All buses to and from the Big Bamboo on all game days
- All the beer and water in the Eskis on the bus
- Upto date equipment for all games (pads, bats, gloves etc)
- Your official 2009 Bashers shirt – see attached images
- Your official 2009 Bashers Cap
- Membership of the Shanghai Cricket Council
- A ticket to the Shanghai 6’s dinner in October (tbc)
- A very active social calendar
- An end of season function
- Plus some other stuff I can’t remember
So please get your cash into Stats asap – starting this weekend.

We understand for new members that they may just want to test the water before they part with 2000 rambos, so for them we allow new players to pay 150 RMB cash per game for their first 3 games. This includes any games already played so far this season. Please note that we have never had anyone just play the trial games and then not join the club!
Lastly, a quick thanks to our sponsors (Big Bamboo, Just Beer, Masala Art, Kooka Pies & Minute Maid) whose contributions allow us to keep our costs so low.
Here’s to a successful and enjoyable 2009 season!
Cheers

Want to earn some cash umpiring?
As I’m sure we would all agree, umpires play a crucial role in ensuring good, fair and enjoyable games that are played in the right spirit. As part of the SCC’s efforts to raise standards across the board, we are now offering to pay umpires who are able to commit to umpiring a whole game. This is the next step towards having a full panel of neutral high quality umpires.
Division 1 – 40 overs – 300RMB per game, inclusive of any transport arrangements
Division 2 – 25 overs –100RMB per game, inclusive of any transport arrangementsIn addition, most teams are more than happy to buy the umpire a drink and a meal in their local after the game, and this is something we certainly hope continues.
Umpires will need:
1. To be extremely knowledgeable in the laws of the game, as well as the rules for the Division umpired
2. To be able to control a game
3. To arrive at least 20 minutes before the start of each game
4. To dress in dark trousers, smart shoes, white shirt, and white sweater/coat as appropriate5. Never give a Basher out LBW
Our Division 3 development league is comprised mostly of local Chinese and juniors, and would of course also welcome umpires, in particular those who can act as coaches. There is no payment for this other than the satisfaction of having spent a couple of hours giving something back to the game in China!
Umpiring Coordinator
The SCC also looking for an umpiring coordinator who can schedule umpires for games. This need not be an umpire, and would not involve any meetings – simply being a focal point for umpires to know which games to officiate.
Let me know if anyone is interested in this.
Dipso
