  4. Woodstock’s Green Challenge Results

    Another ‘uge night at the Camel and once again the Bashers have overachieved.

    This note was received from Mark of the Million Tree Project way too early the next morning;

    Hello everyone,

    I just wanted to thank everyone again for last night’s Pub Quiz. The Bashers were able to raise a very impressive 16,600 RMB (664 trees), more than doubling last year’s donation, all while having fun and playing trivia.
    This impressive donation puts the Bashers on track to eventually earn their own forest (2000 trees), or as Ainsley said the “Bashers’ Bush”. I would really like to continue working with you to make this possible and help plan future Bashers events. If the Bashers do get their own forest we will be able to invite a small group to come and help the local students get a real game of cricket going.”
    Well done all, feel good about yourselves for a bit.
    And what about the competition you ask.

  6. Int’l Cricket Scandal Could Overshadow Leisure-Pudong “Duckworth” Travesty

    Now even the U.S. is following the Pakistan match fixing scandal: This from The Atlantic:

    This week at Lord’s, England won an amazing come-from-behind victory over Pakistan. But the game now is likely to be overshadowed forever by one of the greatest scandals to ever hit international cricket.

    The British newspaper News of the World alleged that in a sting operation, they paid Pakistani middleman Mazhar Majeed 150,000 pounds ($230,000) to collude with Pakistani players and deliberately fix the match, for the benefit of gambling syndicates. Majeed was arrested by police and released on bail pending further investigation. The police have also spoken to several Pakistani players. At this stage, the claims are unproven allegations. But the secretly taped video of Majeed looks, on the face of it, pretty damning.
